Business Analyst Salary Range – Are you paid enough?
Like with any Business Analyst salary range information, this is quite a subjective view (my view) and just a rough estimate. This page describes different levels of Business Analysts with Australian and UK salaries attached to it.
What is your experience level – truthfully?
Entry level business analyst (0 to 12 months of experience)
You have started working formally as a business analyst on a project where you mostly perform non-specialist requirements work. You role includes documenting requirements, sitting in on many requirement sessions where you are taking requirements related notes and you may also be doing process maps and activity diagrams or use case diagrams. You will typically be supported by a senior business analyst or you will only be working on small project. Qualifications wise…you will have some business analysis coursesunder your belt or you will be a fresh graduate.
The business analyst salary range you can look for will be around the following:
Australia (Melbourne, Sydney):
- Permanent role: AUD$60K per annum plus
- Contractor role: AUD$550 per day before tax/super plus
London (United Kingdom):
- Permanent role: GBP25K to 35K per annum plus
- Contractor role: GBP250 per day plus
Mid level business analyst (12 – 36 months of experience)
If you consider yourself a mid level business analyst you will have more than one project under your belt, probably at least 2 big ones. You will facilitate requirements workshops, do requirements interviews and documentation. You will also perform requirements prioritisation, validation and reviews. You will be familiar with requirements traceabilityand a variety of modelling tools. Qualification wise, you with either have a university degree or diploma in Information Systems and/or you will have ISEB or CCBA certifications.

- Contractor role: AUD$650 per day before tax/super plus
London (United Kingdom):
- Permanent role: GBP35K per annum plus

Senior level business analyst (4 years plus of experience)
At this level of the business analysis role you will now be involved if not leading the requirements management and planning activities for your project. You will still perform all requirements related tasks but you will be responsible to ensure adherence to the agreed requirements management approach. You will also be familiar with the key project management skills relevant to a business analyst. Qualifications wise you will either have a university degree or diploma in Information Systems and/or you will have ISEB or CBAP certifications.
